The Lok Sabha, also known as the House of the People, is the lower house of India’s Parliament. It represents the citizens of the country directly, with its members elected through general elections held every five years (or sooner, if dissolved). The maximum strength of the Lok Sabha is 552 members—530 from the states, up to 20 from Union Territories, and 2 nominated by the President from the Anglo-Indian community (though this provision was abolished in 2019). Currently, it has 543 elected members.
